Why I Built xBookmarks - A Chrome Extension to Export Bookmarks
I built a Chrome extension to export X/Twitter bookmarks, and it's a big time-saver.
Why I Built xBookmarks
We bookmark countless tweets every day while browsing X/Twitter, but we rarely find the time to revisit them — it’s almost as if we have never bookmarked them at all. What is worse is that, good tweets can disappear for a variety of reasons, often before we even get a chance to read them thoroughly.
To combat this, I’ve been manually transferring these good tweets into my Obsidian app for local storage. However, with thousands of tweets to manage, this process has become incredibly tedious.
That’s when I had an idea: why not create a tool to simplify exporting these tweets? And what better way than a Chrome extension? After nearly a month of development (despite having no prior experience with developing Chrome extensions), with the help of Cursor and Windsurf, I finally brought this idea to life.
Features
Now, let me introduce xBookmarks (https://x-bookmarks.com), a tool designed to help users effortlessly organize, search, and export their X/Twitter bookmarks. Here are some of its key features:
- Export bookmarks as markdown files
- Visual analytics
- Lightning-fast search
- Streamlined waterfall display
- Privacy-first design
Export bookmarks as markdown files
You can choose a time range to export all bookmarks. The output is a zip file containing one folder for each tweet, complete with images.
Each tweet will cost you 10 points to export. And the points are really cheap (Pricing), so don't worry about the cost.
Visual analytics
You can gain clear insights into your bookmarking habits. You can see how many tweets you have bookmarked. You can choose the date and view the tweets posted on that day.
Lightning-fast search
Find bookmarks instantly by date or keyword, and no need to worry about slow search results. We cache the tweets content on your Chrome's local database to improve the search experience.
Streamlined waterfall display
We offer two different display styles: classic list style and waterfall style. For waterfall style, the tweets are displayed in a waterfall-like fashion, which is more visually appealing. You can change the display style at any time.
Privacy-first design
Since all data is stored locally, as mentioned above, your information remains secure and private. We do not share your data with any third parties.
Have a try
If you’ve ever wanted to export and organize years’ worth of bookmarked tweets, xBookmarks might be just the solution you’re looking for. Give it a try!
